Yukon Flats School District Laptop Initiative

Yukon Flats School District has begun implementing a new student-centric educational program in partnership with the Association of Alaska School Boards and Apple Computer, Incorporated. Using a $140,000 grant from the AASB Consortium for Digital Learning (sponsored by the State of Alaska), along with funds from the , the Yukon Flats School District will be providing each student (5th grade through 12th grade) at Fort Yukon School with a laptop computer for their use throughout the school day, for the whole school year.

Teachers who are part of this project have been provided with district-owned MacBook (Black) laptop computers, including iWork '08 and iLife '06 software and Microsoft Office 2004. YFLI teachers are also provided with a Hewlett-Packard classroom network printer/scanner/copier, an LCD data projector, a digital still camera, and a digital camcorder.

ilifeStudents who are part of this project will be provided with a district-owned MacBook (White) computer with all the software listed above installed. The machines will be kept on-premises at all times for charging, maintenance and security.

Participating students and their parents/guardians will be required to sign the following User Agreement to be given use of a district laptop.

To help maintain this new equipment and minimize the financial risks of the project, YFSD has purchased AppleCare Protection Plan (pdf) extended warranties for all the laptops in the project, as well insurance against loss, theft and accidental damage.

Our insurance coverage is provided through a company called SafeWare Incorporated, and provides the following coverages:
